Our School

We are a two form entry Primary School and Nursery situated on the outskirts of the City of York. We serve the community of Poppleton and other surrounding villages, providing a friendly and welcoming experience for all. We back onto fields, have the River Ouse on our doorstep and have access to a range of amenities within the village. We provide a broad and creative curriculum that prepares pupils for life in Modern Britain, enabling them to develop skills and interests to support future career decisions. Children take part in carefully sequenced activities that enhance learning opportunities as well as develop pupil confidence, resilience and their ability to stay safe.

Our Headteacher, Mrs Estelle O’Hara, leads the school with passion and determination to promote a highly effective, dedicated and knowledgeable team. Since joining the school in 2007, she has worked with school leaders to achieve Outstanding status, converted the school to academy status in partnership with the Governing Body, before forming the Hope Learning Trust with the local Secondary School, Manor CE Academy. The Trust is now Hope Sentamu Learning Trust.

School leaders are relentless in their development and encouragement of staff and pupils. They drive school improvement making links with other successful schools to form fruitful partnerships to share good practice.

Poppleton Ousebank Primary School has a culture of high expectations and professional drive, with research, collaboration and staff debate at the centre of school improvement. We are an outward facing school, with a view that we still have much to learn and much to give. This makes our school an exciting place to be.
