Learning to speak a modern foreign language (MFL) is part of the Key Stage 2 National Curriculum. At POPS, pupils from Year 3 onwards learn French. Learning to speak another language can be very daunting, so having a carefully sequenced scheme of work, that gently builds children’s confidence to speak, read and write in French is essential. We are fortunate that we have Madame Gascoine – an MFL specialist who gently eases children into learning French, ensuring that they look forward to her lessons each week.
Our pupils have an hour lesson, which means that they develop confidence over the four years in KS2 and are incredibly well prepared when they move on to secondary school.
